Today, Saturday, sees the final races of the 40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE. After five challenging days of sea breeze competition, today the Bay of Palma hosts the final showdowns which will decide each class title. The Sotheby’s Mallorca Womens Cup and the Smokin the herb J/70s race two courses but all the other seven classes race just one.

Italy's Scugnizza has the biggest lead, 14 points over Federico Linares' Brujo in the BMW ORC 3 class, but in a fleet of 21 boats, and with a scoring system with no discards there is still the possibility of an upset but in theory the team which finished runners up in their class last year are on course to go one better this time.

Out to defend their respective leads and seal their class win are Red Bandit (ESP) in BMW ORC 1, Teatro Soho Caixabank (ESP) in BMW ORC 2, Scugnizza (ITA) in BMW ORC 3, Meerblick Fun (ESP) in BMW ORC 4, Hatari (GER) in ClubSwan 50, Nadir (ITA) in ClubSwan 42, Farstar (ITA) in ClubSwan 36, Balearia (ESP) in Mallorca Sotheby's Women's Cup and Alcaidesa Marina (ESP) in Herbalife J70.

Today the BMW ORC 1, 2 and 4 classes will compete on the Alfa course (closest to Palma); the three ClubSwan classes on the Bravo course (in front of Playa de Palma); and the BMW ORC 3, Herbalife J70 and Mallorca Sotheby's Women's Cup on the Charlie course (in the centre of the bay).

The prize-giving ceremony will be held at 21:00h in the Ses Voltes area, at the foot of Palma Cathedral.
PRO Gaspar Morey says the Embat sea breeze will roll in this afternoon to give good racing but we may have to wait, "It looks like between 12:00h and 14:00h there will be a wind transition. We have taken all the Committee boats out on the water to see how it evolves. If at 12:00h we see that we are going to have decent conditions, we will take the fleet out to start on time. If not, we will wait until 12:30h to postpone and organise races from 13:30h. The aim is to ensure that the races are held in the best possible conditions. An Embat of 12-13 knots is planned."

Looking good, Palma, looking good…
